Feast your eyes on “Star” Coffee, definitely of a different kind at Noordin Street, Penang

I've had many coffees before around Penang, from traditional coffee shops to traditional coffee houses to funky and modern cafes ... but one with a star adorning the top of my coffee? Zac Teo explores this

So many cafes, so many coffee places nowadays in Penang. Either in the heart of Georgetown, or sprouting around the latest developments, it would prove almost samey-samey after a while with the coffee being offered in the regions of americanos, lattes, macchiatos, cappacinos and and so on. Ipoh may be vastly synonymous with white coffee, but don't discount Penang from brewing a kick-ass cup of traditional coffee as well.

Thus, I've hunted about for something slightly different and came across a delightful stall in Noordin Street recently. I made my way there at about mid-day and was greeted with a sight of evanescent simplicity. The stall is located right in the middle of Noordin Street, just off a heritage shophouse which has been converted to a seating area. Menu is kept simple, with the offerings of coffee almost similar to what you may find in any other kopitiam around Malaysia.

The star of the whole thing, literally, is drawn on the coffee as part of coffee art to jazz up the drinks. Evelyn, the shopowner alongside her husband, has strived to inject a little uniqueness in her preparation and will use the "stocking" sieve to draw out a star on the top of the beverage. On a whole, I would say that its a very suitable place to just chill out and enjoy a coffee during a hot day, or if you're in the area for accomodation or marketing etc. Affordable yet delicious would be an excellent description of the place!

Coffees are about RM2 each (or less, depending on the order). This stall is located on Noordin Street, 10300 Penang. You can find it directly opposite the Cititel Express Penang entrance. Open from 9am to 5pm, however you can only find the "star coffee" from 2pm to 5pm when Evelyn is manning the stall.
