Finding something in inner Georgetown, Penang to satisfy your craving for good pasta and decadent dessert and relaxing coffee? Drop by D'Cova Cafe, as Zac Teo explores...
Penang365.com was invited to review several of their new dishes in the menu, along with its old-time classics. Located in the folds of inner Georgetown lies a cafe by the name of DCova Cafe, known for its tantalizing pastas, desserts and good old coffee. Upon stepping into this cafe, you would find yourself greeted with a warm cozy wooden embrace as the furniture and fittings make you feel right at home.
It can be taken to a lengthy debate, but few could deny that pasta is one of the world's most comforting cuisines. There would be innovations and creatives twist to the dish, jaded up for presentations ... however a simple plate of well-prepared pasta never fails to tickle the taste buds. We kicked off the feast with a delightful clam soup, hearty with every mouthful as the flavors of the sea is balanced with herbs.
Undoubtedly the pastas are the stars of the evening, and we were treated to a taste of the Spicy Seafood Aglio Olio. Keeping it fresh is key here at DCova Cafe, with the tangy spiciness drawing from the unique Bangladeshi Bird's Eye Chili. Generous portions of seafood adorned this dish as the pasta itself is kept chewy - perfectly right.
At DCova Cafe, the kitchen enjoys a nice dazzle of the menu thus the next dish was concocted - Sakura Ebi Pasta. Here is where things get interesting. as the remnants of the pasta is delightfully topped with crispy deep fried Japanese prawns. Amazingly, this brings upon a new dimension to the pasta as the fragrant prawns cast magic on the pasta - every biteful was brought upon a crispy flavorful seafood sensation.
For those looking for something less adventurous yet bordering on something new, go ahead and sample the Chicken Teriyaki Pasta. An absolute crowd favorite as it infuses well-prepared pasta with Japenese elements, this dish is very much up everyone's alley with its chicken tenders glazed in a wonderful teriyaki marinate.
Moving on to the other parts of the menu here in DCova, we were treated to a range of beautiful desserts after the main courses. Highlights include the collection of cakes obtained from Passionis, which itself is impressive when served along a piping hot cup of coffee. The baristas here in DCova Cafe expertly whips up a wicked cup of coffee - do try their Matcha Latte for something really decadent.
For those planning your next meal here, do take note that the opening hours of this cafe is from 10am to 10pm from Sunday to Thursdays, while they are opened till midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. In conjunction with the Christmas festive season this December 2016, DCova Cafe is giving away a free limited edition fruit cake with a minimum spending of RM150 on a single receipt. All in all, head over the DCova Cafe for your fix of pastas or just relaxing with dessert and coffee!
