Hokkien Kongsi, Penang held their 158th Anniversary Dinner on 6th September 2014 at Chinese Recreation Club Restaurant Penang.
Khoo Kay Hock, the chairman of Hokkien Kongsi, Penang welcomed the guests in his opening speech which highlighted the launching of the brand new book titled ‘The Story of Hokkien Kongsi, Penang’ and the presentation of Title Deed to Chooi Bee Keong Temple in Jalan Tanjung Tokong.
Present to witness this milestone in the history of Hokkien Kongsi in Penang was Y.A.B.Tuan Lim Guan Eng, the Chief Minister of Penang. The Chief Minister presented a speech and launched the new book.
The hardcover book features exclusive photos and in depth information of the migration of the forefathers from Fujian, China to Penang and the development of the Goh Tai Seh Kongsis, namely Cheah, Khoo, Lim, Tan and Yeoh. The five kongsis located in the Heritage Enclave of Georgetown have helped Penang gain recognition by UNESCO as one of the world Heritage Sites on 7th July 2008.
The book published by The Phoenix Press Sdn Bhd is priced at RM100. Proceeds from the sale of the books will go towards the major renovation of Cheng Leong Keong Temple in Jelutong (better known as Tai Tay Yah Am).
