The World Tourism Day was celebrated on 27th September 2009. Generally, this day serves to raise awareness within the international community regarding tourism and how it affects social, cultural and economic values on a global scale. The United Nations World Tourism Organization is celebrating this day in Ghana with this year’s theme ‘Tourism – Celebrating Diversity’.
Penang mark this World Tourism day with a press conference held in Traders Hotel. YB Danny Law Heng Kiang, State Tourism Development, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman was on hand to deliver the opening speech for this event.
The opening speech was followed with video screening of footage showing the cultural performances held in Penang for the invited guests and medias. You could view the video footage regarding Penang tourism at the link below!
Hope Penang will continue promoting tourism as this industry does attract investors to the country and also benefits the restaurateurs, street food hawkers, hoteliers and the transport sector.
It was an indeed a pleasure for me to be part of the global celebration to commemorate World Tourism Day and at the same time getting to know and mingle with some new found friends.
